Perneau is an alternative pop-rock band from Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The early years

The band is founded in 2003 by Ramon Passier (Guitar, Keys) and Rogier van den Brink (Bass). Based on their first demo recording in 2003 the band was selected to participate in ‘Utrecht-speelt-uit’, a national tour that displays upcoming music talent. Thanks to their demo and live performances, Perneau got a lot of positive feedback in the national media. This even led to a brief tour in and around one of Europe’s creative capitals, Berlin.

The band continues their success in 2004. Being part of the renown Utrecht guitar rock scene, they enter local band contest ‘Uur-U’ and reach the semi-finals. One year later, lead singer Titus de Leeuw left the band for personal reasons.

Studio and sound

Perneau finds its revival in 2006 in finding a new singer Steven Craenmehr. The five band members decide to focus on getting to know each other creatively and musically. Soon Perneau is writing new material and they naturally find the band’s new sound. In 2008 the fresh 5-piece band hits the studio with one of Hollands most renown producers JB Meijers (Supersub, Solomon Burke & De Dijk). The result is a 3-song demo portraying the new signature sound for Perneau: pop based melodies, subtle indie guitars, a healthy dose of analogue synthesizers, moulded in a solid rock jacket. In fact, it’s hard to define the overall sound.

Up to date, Perneau has built a strong new repertoire, which they’ve tested live several times in and around their new hometown Amsterdam and at various festivals (De Beleving, Bloemetjes aan Zee). Halfway 2010, the band continues as a 4-piece project, as guitarist Bram van den Hurk decides to leave Perneau for personal reasons.

An interesting tweet

Perneau’s latest demo is doing its work well and the band find ways to grow steadily and grab attention from key figures in the music business – even on the other side of the globe. To the band’s surprise, LA-based rock chick Sass Jordan tweeted  ‘I like Perneau’s song The Beast Love’.

In september 2010, Marc Verschoor (Live Republic Management) and Perneau join forces and as a team they make progress on the bands next steps. In fall 2010, their cover of  Scram C Baby’s ‘Anymore’ appears on this band’s exclusive online release via Dutch rock label Excelsior Records. Meanwhile, Perneau also keeps on searching for the right man on guitar to complete the picture.

Currently Perneau is working in the studio on realizing their debut EP, which is expected to be released February 2011. Perneau came quite a long way, but the band is ready to introduce the world their musical adventures.
